Sarah Giboney

Owner/Personal Trainer/Pilates Instructor

I believe that everyone deserves to feel happy and be healthy. As the owner/operator, head personal trainer and group fitness instructor at Foundation Fitness I am dedicated to sharing my knowledge, experiences and ideas to help others achieve higher levels of well being. My passion is helping our members find their unique balance of physical activity, nutrition and rest – one that fits with their lifestyle that they can take with them for the rest of their lives.

I have a valuable perspective to share as I am no stranger to the obstacles and setbacks that our fast paced culture can bring – proper nutrition and physical activity have not always been a part of my daily life. I took a leap of faith when I left my secure career to pursue this dream of being a fitness professional and have found that there is no substitute for seeing members and clients reach goals and feel great about themselves.

My education includes a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business and Health Promotion and various fitness instruction certifications including TRX Suspension Training. My primary health related interests are gaining and sharing knowledge, practicing moderation, utilizing and giving social support and demolishing the current media driven image of the ideal human form which is at odds with true health. On a personal note, I love music, dancing, spending time with friends and family, tailgating, canoeing/kayaking, traveling and hosting dinner parties.

I want to help you make feeling great a reality. I offer complimentary consultations and half price initial training sessions to allow you the opportunity to see if my support is right for you.
Feel free to reach me by phone or email anytime – I would love to hear from you!

Be Happy!

Kate Cookson

Personal Trainer/Class Instructor

If anyone is to blame for my career in the fitness industry it would have to be Billy Blanks and his life changing workout…Tae-Bo! I loved them so much that in 2001 I earned a group exercise certification and started teaching cardio-kickboxing. Thank you Billy!!!

Since that time I’ve earned additional certifications including Silver Sneakers, indoor cycling, boot camp, Yoga-Fit Level I and II, Zumba, and Barre, as well as, getting acquainted with the belly dancing community. I’m proud to say, I’ve shimmied my heart out at many Ethnic Enrichment festivals and those moves have made their way into my Zumba classes.

In 2006 I earned my personal trainer certification through the National Exercise Trainers Association allowing me to add one-on-one training with clients to my existing group fitness expertise. Overtime, I’ve focused less on group exercise and more on personal training. From 2011-2016 I worked in a corporate fitness facility creating individualized programs with a focus on injury prevention to counter the effects of repetitive motion.

After all of that, I’m happy to be back to teaching yoga and offering my unique training at Foundation Fitness.

Why do I do what I do? Because I know that exercise is the best medicine. It can almost instantly make someone feel better – even just 20 minutes can change your day. In addition to helping clients reach fitness goals with programs for weight loss, muscle gain, improved balance and cardiovascular health I offer myofasical release techniques (self massage with foam rollers and such) to keep my clients feeling their best.

*My philosophy*

No one can give health and fitness 100% of their attention 100% of the time. Our wellness journey swings back and forth like a pendulum. Sometimes we’re going towards vitality and better health. Sometimes we’re going away from it. My solution is to make peace with where you are. Looking back and comparing ourselves to others or our previous self won’t propel us forward. Lasting change begins by easing up on ourselves and accepting credit for all the steps we’ve taken in the right direction. Results from behavioral changes are often incremental but they do add up with time and consistency.

Let me help you reach your goals with a program tailored to fit your needs.
It just takes one phone call!

Yoga Instructor

After returning to the mid-west, having been spoiled by the moderate California weather and leading an active outdoor lifestyle, I found myself working out at that “gym I would never join”. Suprising even myself, the workout bug bit me and I now happlily combine the gym workouts with my outdoor pleasures which include cycling, walking, hiking, swimming and even fishing. Following a skydiving accident that required me to approach my workouts in a different manner I developed a great passion and desire to help others and have launched a career in leading group fitness. I am Piyo, R.I.P.P.E.D. and Zumba certified and I am currently pursuing other fitness certifications that will allow me to specialize in working with older adults, people with injuries or disabilities and the youth community. I am especially fond of coaching baseball which I did while my son was growing up and still enjoy giving a few lessons here and there and passing the knowledge onto my grandchildren.

Over the past few years I have done numerous 5Ks, 10Ks, sprint triathalons and duathalons. Following my injury, Yoga played a big role in overcoming my limitations and getting back on track. Because of that, I want to help others in the same manner it helped me and am now studying at KCFitnessLink, School of Yoga, Massage, Nutrition and Holistic Health and am leading Yoga practices here at Foundation Fitness in addition to my responsibilities in helping maintain a friendly, happy and clean atmosphere at this facility. One of the best kept in the city!!

I believe that athletes come in all shapes, sizes and ages and I encourage those new to fitness to remember that we were all there once so not to let that deter you from the feel good stuff working out can offer. I welcome walkers, hikers and cyclists and those interested in trying group fitness to join me regardless of experience level as I love to introduce newbies to these activities and watch their abilities and self-confidence grow.

I am so excited to be working in an atmosphere where I see motivated individuals everyday striving towards their goal for better health. I’ve always enjoyed staying active whether it be playing basketball or lifting weights. I am originally from Chicago, Illinois where I grew up for my pre-college life. I graduated from Mizzou with a general degree in Communication. This is my first year living in Kansas City and I’m already in love with it. I look forward to seeing all you guys and if you have any questions about fitness, feel free to ask.
